FROM THE MMYL FEBRUARY MINUTES

Rainham Eagles U/13 fixture against Guru Nanak Youth on 29/1/12 in the John Leeds Cup.  ‘Although it was very much a one sided affair the attitude of both sets of players, parents and coaches and Ray who was refereeing made the whole occasion an enjoyable game to watch and be a part of.  Guru Nanak players showed great respect for the Rainham Eagles players right up until the final whistle, despite the score.  The Rainham Eagles players never gave up and always played with a smile on their face. The parents from both sets of teams were a credit to each club in the way they encouraged the opposing players.  I would like to say a special thank you to Neal from Guru for his kind words to my players at the end of the game.  Games like today is why we give up our time each weekend.  I would like to wish Guru Nanak all the best for the remaining rounds’.
John Furlong Club secretary
Ray Kerr (league referee of above fixture)  ‘Can I echo John’s opinion. I thought the way that Neal of Guru took time out at the end of the game to go over and praise the Rainham Eagles players was fantastic and is the true spirit of sportmanship that others would do well to follow.’
Guru Nanak Youth U/13s manager I have read John's email and responded to him, I, and all of us at the club were really touched that he took the time to do this.  I totally agree with his comments on an enjoyable day, his team of players, parent and coaches really made us feel welcome and their sportsmanship was fantastic, each one of his players wished us luck in the next rounds and look forward to seeing them in the final.. The game on Sunday was a real advert for youth football, everyone gave 100%, played the game for enjoyment and I cannot remember a time I have left a match on such a high, the score was almost irrelevant. I have wished John and his team the best for the rest of the season, it was a pleasure to meet them.
