As some of you may be aware from the recent news post on the website, we are appealing to the Punjabi community to save the life of our 6 year old daughter Rianna Deol.

Little Rianna has bravely been fighting leukaemia since she was diagnosed two years ago, sadly she has recently relapsed and will only recover from this life threatening illness if we are able to find a compatible bone marrow donor in the next 4 months.

We have been told that we are most likely to be successful in our search by encouraging as many Asians as possible to join the register. This is because, Rianna is most likely to match someone with similar tissue to herself. Unfortunately at present, Asians are the most underrepresented group of people on the register. This is making it extremely difficult for us to find Rianna a donor. However, we know somebody out there will be her perfect match and it could even be you.

All you have to do in order to help, is join the register. This involves completing a quick form and giving a 4ml blood sample at any one of the clinics being held this Vaisakhi:

Saturday 12th April
The Arts Studio (Sports Hall), Khalsa Avenue, Gravesend
10am-2pm

Sunday 13th April
Dartford Gurdwara, 8 Highfields Road, Dartford
10am-2pm

Monday 14th April
Erith Gurdwara, 31 Mitchell Close, off Lower Road, Belvedere
5pm-8pm

We have not given up hope and still have faith that the Asian community will work together to get as many people to join the register and help save Rianna and others like her. If you are aged between 18-40 and of good health, please put yourselves in our position and find the time to support our appeal. With your help we hope Rianna will also be able to celebrate Vaisakhi for many years to come.

If you would like any more information, please contact me Ravi Deol on: 07773269917 or Ramandeep Bhatti on: 07917003595. You can also visit www.anthonynolan.org.uk

Barking Youth Tournament 2007

It was another excellent Tournament for the Gurus this Saturday gone, this time in Barking.

We took up 5 teams to compete in 4 sections and made 3 of the Finals and 2 Semi Finals, eventually emerging winners in 2 sections.

Under 9’s and Under 10’s were excellent not losing a game throughout. Under 11’s were very unlucky just missing out on penalties in the Semi’s.

We entered 2 teams in the Under 16’s because there was not an under 15’s section, thought it would be a good experience for the lads to mix it with players a year above them. But they surprised everyone by advancing through the group stages. The A team finished second in their group and the B team won their group setting up an all GNG semi final clash, B advanced 1-0 but lost out in the Final.

2 of our players also picked up the Player of the Tournament Awards. Alex Failho (U 9’s) and Arun Suman (U 10’s) played fantastically.

Well done to the Players, Management Team Guy Dale, Bal Chattha, Jelo Bains, Indy Sanghera, Manjit Atwal, Paul, Narinder and Hardip Gill, and supporters for making it a memorable occasion.

The youth teams are in action again on Saturday in a tournament held at New Ash Green.

Also this weekend coming we have Hounslow Tournament where once again the Youth section will be competing on the Sunday – everyone is welcome to support.

The Senior First Team has been drawn against Smethwick Rangers – Last year’s Champions and holders, on the way they beat us in the A Section Semi’s….a perfect chance for revenge, 12:30pm kick off.

Under 9’s
Final GNG 2 – 1 Singh Sabha Barking
(Umair Ashraf, Jess Gill)

Player of the Tournament – Alex Failho

Under 10’s
Quarter-Final GNG 1 – 0 SS Barking
(Taran Shoker)

Semi-Final GNG 1 – 0 Soccer Skills
(Arun Suman)

Final GNG 2 – 0 Waltham Forest
(Arun Suman, George Drynan)

Player of the Tournament – Arun Suman

Under 11’s
Semi-Final GNG 1 – 1 Shield Academy B AET (0-2 pen Shoot-out)
(Connor Halliwell)

Under 16’s
Semi-Final GNG A 0 – 1 GNG B
(Ninny)

Final GNG B 1 – 2 ST Cedds B AET
